Here are some teddy bear fun facts:
- In 1902, president Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip. This was widely publicized. A couple in Brooklyn NY decided to create and begin selling a stuffed bear named "Teddy's Bear" in their candy shop. The bear was a hit and the Michtoms founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company, the first teddy bear producing company in the US.
- The very first jointed bears were created by the German Steiff Company. In 1989, a Steiff bear sold at auction for $88,000.
- Avid teddy bear collectors are called arctophiles.
- The National Geographic Society calls the teddy bear the most popular toy in the world.
I recently completed my latest bear project - Ming Panda. He's a peaceful little guy and has been entrusted to my son, who loves him already. I made a pink and white one, too, for my daughter (she named her Belly). I'm thinking a great big one would be fun to make. Maybe someday...
Without further ado, here is Ming:

Long live teddy bears!!
